Midwives' Association of Washington State (MAWS) is a nonprofit professional organization representing midwives statewide.

We invite midwives, health professionals, and consumers to join us in creating a vital and collaborative perinatal healthcare system. All members receive a quarterly newsletter, and are welcome to attend meetings.

Our vision is to establish midwifery as the highest standard of care for all healthy women during the childbearing cycle.

Our activites focus on promoting public awareness of midwifery as a safe and valid choice for maternity care. We develop professional standards, provide continuing education and peer review opportunities and promote accountability through our state-approved quality assurance program. Our lobbying and advocacy efforts have resulted in better health care options for women and increased professional recognition of midwives across the state.

Our association was formed to unite and organize the two groups of midwives in Washington state, and to promote public and professional recognition of midwifery. Full members are certified nurses and licensed midwives. Associate members, an important part of the organization, include a wide range of health professionals and consumers who share an interest in midwifery.
