Midwives' Association of Washington State (MAWS) is dedicated to supporting BIPOC midwives and those serving in rural areas in hopes of lessening the gap on their ability to provide quality and affordable health care to residents of Washington state. We are looking at doing more intentional work and disseminating information about midwifery care, low risk births, out-of-hospital births, perinatal outcomes, breastfeeding rates, and other topics related to licensed midwifery in Washington state this year. We hope to promote midwifery and MAWS through more engagement from our social media, as well as coming up with fundraising ideas to raise money for programs that give back to the community.

- Position Responsibilities - This will be a fully-remote position with flexible hours, besides a possible weekly meeting that will be discussed to fit everyone's schedule. Students will be working closely with the Executive Director to focus on education and promotion of midwifery and MAWS through social media platforms, while also getting the chance to collaborate with sub-committees such as the Legislative & Policy Committee to update guidelines as well as pull and read research
- Community Impact - Having a social media presence will likely attract a younger generation of students who are interested in midwifery or those in interdisciplinary fields who want to collaborate in increasing access to equitable and quality healthcare. We hope that gaining the attention of a broader audience will allow us to educate people on the importance of sustaining the midwifery community.
To be successful at this position, a student should possess:
- Organizational skills
- Effective communication skills
- Knowledge of how to work on social media platforms i.e. Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, Tiktok
- Creative ideas for fundraising
- Willingness to collaborate
- Desire to learn and contribute to creating a more inclusive and supportive space for healthcare professionals
