Call for Volunteers

There are moments in every movement when we are called not just to witness change, but to help nourish it. This is one of those moments for our Association.

The Midwives’ Association of Washington State (MAWS) is inviting members and community members to join our roster of volunteers. There are so many places where you are needed.

MAWS is a mission-driven, volunteer powered organization representing Licensed and Certified Professional Midwives across Washington State. Since our founding in 1983,  we have been steadfast in our work to:
  • Expand access to midwifery care and integrate community midwives into the broader perinatal care system.
  • Address systemic barriers to practice, licensing, and equitable reimbursement.
  • Advance birth equity and reproductive justice, centering the needs and leadership of those most impacted by disparities.
  • Support midwives through clinical resources, professional development, and advocacy at the national, state and local levels.

We are in a period of exciting growth and transformation,  reimagining how we serve our members, how we show up for birthing families, and how we build a sustainable future for midwifery in Washington.

Serving  as a MAWS  VOLUNTEER is more than a volunteer opportunity, it is a chance to step forward and get comfortable in leadership roles. It’s a way to deepen your impact, and contribute to the future of a profession rooted in dignity, community, and care. Most importantly it is an opportunity to help fortify community in Washington.

Land Acknowledgement
MAWS acknowledges that we live and work on the unceded ancestral lands of the Coast Salish tribes and pay our respects to all of the ancestral homelands and traditional territories of Indigenous peoples who have been here since time immemorial. We recognize that this land touches on the shared waters of tribes and bands within the Duwamish, Puyallup, Suquamish, Tulalip and Muckleshoot nations. We recognize we are grateful to be guests in these lands and commit to show solidarity for the continued fight for Indigenous sovereignty.
