MAWS is the professional association for midwives in the State of Washington. Professional MAWS membership confers many benefits, including access to state-sanctioned and protected peer review and professional liability insurance that enables midwives to become participating in-network providers with health insurance companies (including Medicaid/DSHS). WA state is one of only twelve states in the US where midwives can serve low income people by accepting Medicaid.

MAWS exists to promote the health and well-being of childbearing people and babies through the development and support of the profession of midwifery in keeping with “the Midwives Model of Care” from the International Confederation of Midwives. They offer resources, support, continuing education opportunities, and guidance to the state in regard to the policies and rules related to midwifery.

Are you a New Midwife in WA state?
Midwives new to licensure in Washington receive their first year of Professional Membership to MAWS free! Contact membership@washingtonmidwives.org for more information.

Land Acknowledgement
MAWS acknowledges that we live and work on the unceded ancestral lands of the Coast Salish tribes and pay our respects to all of the ancestral homelands and traditional territories of Indigenous peoples who have been here since time immemorial. We recognize that this land touches on the shared waters of tribes and bands within the Duwamish, Puyallup, Suquamish, Tulalip and Muckleshoot nations. We recognize we are grateful to be guests in these lands and commit to show solidarity for the continued fight for Indigenous sovereignty.
