MAWS is the largest and most established professional organization for midwives in Washington state. We were founded in 1983. We provide resources, education, and advocacy for midwives, consumers, and the wider community. Our goal is for all families to have access to safe, effective, and quality care.

​​In the past few years MAWS has:

• Created a Webinar Series since we are unable to host an in-person conference due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
• Joined forces with other organizations to create the Washington State Midwifery COVID-19 Response Coalition
  
• Continued to facilitate Peer and Incident Reviews through our state sanctioned, legally-protected Quality Management Program
  
• Spoke out against efforts to weaken the World Health Assembly's resolution to encourage breastfeeding
• ​Sponsored the national CPM Symposium​

• Successfully fought to maintain reasonable caps on licensing fees for midwives. This is an ongoing struggle and we are working toward long term solutions!
• Hosted Midwives Lobby Day
• Spoke out against white supremacy
• ​Continued to promote timely data collection as required by state law
• Introduced free MAWS memberships to people of color
• Sponsored a local gathering of indigenous birth keepers​​

REAL RENT DUWAMISH

Real Rent calls on people who live and work in Seattle to make rent payments to the Duwamish Tribe. Though the city named for the Duwamish leader Chief Seattle thrives:

The Tribe has yet to be justly compensated for their land, resources, and livelihood. 

You can do something today to stand in solidarity with First Peoples of this land by paying Real Rent. 
All funds go directly to Duwamish Tribal Services (DTS) to support the revival of Duwamish culture and the vitality of the Duwamish Tribe.
